CERCATORI DI BELLEZZA
BEAUTY SEEKERS (english version)
calendar 2023

The CERCATORI DI BELLEZZA (Seekers of Beauty) calendar initiative, in its current form, is in its first edition, and we hope that with time it will become an eagerly awaited object, indispensable in our homes, with the presence of Italian and international artists, united by the same quest for the beautiful, the good, the true...for being in its purest nature.

This initiative is in support of Progetto San Gaetano, a project to redevelop the parish area of San Gaetano Thiene, in the village of the same name in the municipality of Caorle, in the province of Venice. A small reality, for years now, entrusted to the care of the monks and nuns of the nearby monastery of Marango di Caorle. The desire is to create an alternative way of inhabiting the world, with respect for creation, an example of a hospitable society, a place of fraternity and inclusion. Through the dissemination of culture, the accompaniment of young and old, the practice of hospitality, the promotion of small work activities and the acquisition of arts and crafts, it would like to set a sign of hope at the service of families and the territory. This is the soul of this ambitious project. An authoritative voice of our times states that: «Today, the Church does not only need to speak out loud the Truth; it always needs men and women who transform into concrete goods what the pastors preach and theologians teach; it also needs to set an example for the people of our time, who need to discover that they are not just 'takers' of good, but 'entrepreneurs' of charity».

We would like to thank all those who, with their artistic contribution, have participated in this small but significant initiative, donating part of their person, so that it may become a shared patrimony and all may be enriched in humanity.

The calendar is available

Susana Abundis Espinosa was born in Coyoacán, D.F. in 1964. I studied Industrial Design at the Ibero-American University. From an early age I started drawing the human figure everyw here. Over the years I have practiced various artistic disciplines as autodidact. I had teachers such as Pedro de la Rosa (engraving) 1995, Humberto Oramas (oil) 1997, Patricia Guzmán (watercolor) 2016, Vladimir Islas Valdelamar (encaustic) 2019. I have been dedicating myself almost exclusively to watercolor since 2018, and not much to encaustic. Currently I dedicate myself to my paintings, I hold lectures and workshops e work on assignments. The figurative style is my main expressive form, but in the encaustic technique, the style is more abstract. What drives me to paint is beauty. The beauty that appears in everything that I see. The human figure has a special charm for me ... forms, expressions, personalities, stories. In this complicated world, it is important for me to save and express beauty, because it has transformed humanity throughout history and keeps doing it.

Matteo Bertomoro born in 1985 in Mestre and I live in Quarto d’Altino, in the province of Venice. I have always drawn but I approached watercolors for the first time in 2016. After starting out as a sketcher and illustrator, starting from the middle of 2017 I have given a decidedly more pictorial direction to my path, thanks to the study of the masters of Impressionist watercolor contemporary and open air activity. To date I have participated in group exhibitions in various cities of Italy (Venice, Modena, Genoa, Cagliari, Mestre) and in various solo exhibitions, obtaining excellent results; I exhibited my works in the international festival of "Fabriano in Acquarello" (2019, 2020, 2021, 2022) and, by invitation, in the exhibitions organized by "Acquerello del Doge" in Codroipo (Ud). I regularly teach watercolor courses and workshops. In 2021 I exhibited some pages of my sketchbooks at the international event "Pencils in travel". The main theme of my research is the landscape in its various meanings (urban, natural, human) which I try to tell through impressions that are especially attentive to the light and atmosphere of the subject.

Michael Solovyev is often called a “sunny watercolorist” – his airy, transparent artworks look as though they emit the sunlight. His traditional academic art education, extensive experience as a head theater stage designer, and oil painter career now inform his priority as a watercolor artist – light. His main belief is that sometimes even a pile of rubbish with beautiful lighting can become an artwork. Michael is a watercolor artist of great renown, with exhibitions and workshops all over the world, from Bolivia to France to Australia.

Raúl Barajas is a photographer born in Mexico City in 1961. Photography has led him to discover unfathomable scenes and landscapes, people from other cultures, from other times. Photography has always been with him even when he was a television producer as well as a cultural promoter, co-creator of the Cultural Space LUCC (The Last Laugh of Cumbancha). Selected in the 2nd edition of the 'México de los Mexicanos' International Photography Competition, 2014. Barajas's vision is like a fan, able to capture and project the essence of the subject, be it a person, an ethnic group, a dish or a landscape.

Pietro Battistella, born in Buenos Aires in 1958, simply a curious and passionate observer of what can bring joy to eyes and heart. The works of Andy Warhol, Hugo Pratt and Renato Casaro are for him important references that led , from is childhood, to prefer illustration as a form of expression.

Maria Angelova was born in Sofia in 1969. Since she was a child, her greatest passion has been painting and at the age of twelve she began to attend drawing, watercolor and composition courses. In 1988, in her hometown, she graduated in Artistic Design for Textiles and afterwards she graduated in Dental Technology. As a designer she has created numerous designs for the textile industry, for the world of children as well, with projects that were later carried on in different countries of the world.
